Britain’s master farceur (Two Into One, Run For Your Wife) is at it again. Set in a hospital, It Runs in the Family contains the usual assortment of farcical nuts running in and out of doors mistaking everybody for someone else, as Dr. Mortimore tries to fend off a paternity suit, an ex wife, a punkish son and various other lunatics so that he may, at last, deliver the Ponsonby Lecture in an international conference.

Audition Dates: Sunday, August 4, 6:00 – 9:30 and Monday, August 5, 7:00 – 9:30

Callbacks: Thursday, August 8, 7:00 – 10:00
By appointment at the Black Box Theater located in the Frisco Discovery Center, 8004 N. Dallas Parkway, Frisco, TX 75034 off Cotton Gin Road east of the Dallas North Tollway.

Prepare: Bring a headshot and resume. There will be cold readings from the script at the audition.

Actors must be comfortable with physical comedy and speak with a British accent.

Characters:

DR. DAVID MORTIMORE 50 – 60s Head doctor, charming, slightly pompous but likable

DR. MIKE CONNOLLY 20 – 35 An exuberant doctor who loves acting and dressing up; eager to please but is often frenetic

ROSEMARY MORTIMORE 40 – 60s David’s attractive wife; she is refined, outgoing and pleasant; nothing gets past her

DR. HUBERT BONNEY 50 – 60s Enthusiastic, charming, willing to please, but ineffective

MATRON 30 – 60 No-nonsense type of woman; robust, ample, strict, a rule follower

SIR WILLOUGHBY DRAKE 50 – 80 (Male or Female) Chair of the Board of St. Andrew’s Hospital; a stern administrator, and a bit out of touch with what really goes on in the hospital.

JANE TATE 40sPretty, likeable former nurse; a good mother, though perhaps overly protective

SISTER 30 – 60 Incredibly pleasant and efficient nurse at the hospital; no one knows anything about her and everyone constantly forgets she exists

LESLIE 18 – 20 Jane and David’s son from an affair 19 years earlier; punk exterior; exudes a constant physical threat, though surprisingly intellectual and emotional; uses very simple logic; excitable

POLICE SERGEANT 30 – 60 (Male or Female) Practical; down to earth; by the book; logic

BILL 40 – 80 Eccentric and fun-loving; his self-image is 35 years ago; his brain has short circuited

MOTHER 60 – 80 Auntie Mame’s grandmother; always on the verge of throwing a party, though never actually doing so; if it were not for her daily, vigilant efforts, the world would be chaos; completely ineffectual

Performance Dates: Nov 1 – Nov 17; Friday and the 1st and 3rd Saturday Nights at 8:00, the 2nd Saturday and Sunday afternoons at 2:30 with an additional Saturday matinee at 2:30 on Nov 17. Performances will be at the Black Box Theatre in the Frisco Discovery Center.

There will be a table read on Saturday, Sep 7 at 10:00am, then rehearsals begin Monday, Sep 30. Rehearsals will typically be Monday through Thursday evenings. Actors will receive a $250 stipend.
